Handsworth Wood Neighbourhood update – 19/08/2023 – 31/08/2026

Welcome to this week’s crime and community update for the Handsworth Wood area. Our neighbourhood team remains committed to tackling key crime issues affecting residents, especially around domestic abuse, robbery, burglary, and vehicle crime. We also continue to engage with schools and local partners to provide early intervention and support.

🛑 Crime Updates

Burglary

One Attempt burglary on Church Green. Incident happened between 9pm and 9:35pm on 30/08/2026.

➡️ Please remain vigilant and review your home security — consider alarms, CCTV, and good lighting.

Vehicle Crime

We have received five reports of Theft of motor vehicle at the following below location.

West Avenue. Incident happened between 12am on 13/08/2026 and 2am on 21/08/2026.

Wood Lane. Incident happened between 8:30pm and 9:42pm on 25/08/2026.

New Inns Close. Incident happened at 5:47pm on 26/08/2026.

Westbourne Avenue. Incident happened between 8am on 18/08/2026 and 11:50 on 28/08/2026.

Somerset Road. Incident happened between 8.30pm on 26/08/2026 and 3:43pm on 29/08/2026.

There has been one report of Theft from motor vehicle on Church Lane. Between 9am and 10:30am individuals removed and stole number plates from vehicle.

There has been an Attempt theft of a motor vehicle on West Avenue between 10:03am on 20/08/2026 and 10:19am on 21/08/2026.

➡️ Key-less entry theft remains a concern. Please use Faraday pouches, remove visible items, and consider physical deterrents like steering wheel locks.

Team Highlights

17/08/2026 - Inspector Goodwin returns to the Perry Barr area after initially starting his career here on the 10th April 2000. He has always enjoyed working with the people of this great Community. "My teams and I will be relentless in supporting those who live and work in our areas.”

Numerous vehicles seized for No Tax and No Insurance. Tickets also issued for pavement parking.

26/08/2026 – Visibility patrols on Oxhill Road. Due to concerns reported of homeless individuals drinking, taking drugs and causing general ASB.
